The Sussex County Council Capital Transportation Improvement
Program request was presented to county council members to review at
their Tuesday, Sept. 10 meeting.
The road plan has many facets including the north-south limited
access highway under consideration that would incorporate large
portions of Route 113, seven east-west road improvements along with
improvements to the resort areas of the county and the construction
of a new bridge at the Indian River Inlet, according to Robert "Bob"
Stickels, county administrator.
Stickels said he estimates the plan will cost about $500,000, but
official cost estimates were not included in the request at this
time. Stickels said he would present the plan to officials and
representatives of the Delaware Department of Transportation on
Sept. 12. The public meeting will begin at 6 p.m. and will be held
in Georgetown.
The plan also includes several stationary electronic signs that
various agencies can use to post messages with evacuation
information, fire marshal notices and other items to inform the
public when necessary, Stickles said.
"[This] is one of the most complete and well-thought-out plans
we've ever presented," said council member Dale Dukes. "We also need
to take care of the secondary roads."
Stickels and other council members agreed there were still
several other road projects that need the state's attention.
